What is known today in Cádiz as the  Candelaria bastion is a group of buildings of military origin from different periods. The existing buildings, once modified, were to house the Museum of the Sea of the city of Cádiz.

A simple restoration was not considered sufficient to meet the requirements of a museum. Thus, a series of roofs were designed to link the different parts of the building, allowing the museum to be visited under cover without losing contact with the interior garden. Through these operations, the whole complex is organised, incorporating a new order that is superimposed on the arbitrariness with which the existing buildings seemed to be arranged. The character of these roofs allows them to be juxtaposed with the existing buildings and, on the other hand, to make the vegetation and the transparencies that are produced the argument of the new image that the museum must offer to the city.
