The commission by the Government of Navarre for the new Archive, in what had been the Palace of the Kings in the Middle Ages, meant for the architect a new encounter with his homeland. The situation in which the palace found itself - the former Military Government, seriously deteriorated since it was abandoned in the 1970s - made conventional remodelling difficult, and the alternative offered was to wrap the existing masonry with a new ashlar facing, which guaranteed respect for the form while maintaining the condition of the materials - the colour and texture - that the palace once had.

However, this procedure could not be extended to the whole project and the new constructions accept this by using the same stone, treated, however, with modern techniques. The result is the rescue for Pamplona of a new Palace of the Kings of Navarre, which is added to the group of towers and walls that outline the profile of the city on the top of the plateau overlooking the Arga.
