Autonomous University of Bellaterra Station

The building is conceived as the conjunction of two essentially different façades, due to the different problems that one and the other must resolve. One of them closes the avenue leading to the university faculties, with an imposing lowered arch, which encompasses all the accidents that take place inside it and lends a civic air to the end of the avenue. This element gives the building, which is small in its true architectural reality, a metric scale perfectly suited to the visual depth with which it is approached by the user. The opposite façade, the one facing the platforms, adopts a sense of unlimited continuity, obviously appropriate and integrated into the geometry of the railway line. On the contrary, the surface of this façade assumes the discourse proposed for all the stations on this railway line, based on pieces of stoneware and horizontal strips of white marble.

We are obviously faced with the familiar theme of the wall with a body attached to it which, in this case, solves the problem of the displacement of the axes of the access avenue: the arch is centred with it and the subway under the platforms, by means of lengthening the wall to offer a façade centred with the two sections of the descent to the aforementioned tunnel.
