Located in the east of the city, between a stretch of the M40 ring road and the end of the Avenida de los Arcentales, the Athletics Stadium was the centrepiece of the set of facilities that would in the future integrate the sports city of the Community of Madrid. The solution adopted opts for unity, gravitating on a square platform on which the stadium rests and to which other sports pavilions would be connected.

This plane - under which the general services are located, illuminated by courtyards - serves as a support for the grandstand, the piece which, silhouetted against the horizon, identifies the complex in the distance. Its position, next to the finish straight, concentrates the largest number of spectators where the most important moments of athletics take place, and allowing the celebration of musical or other types of shows, which are necessary to contribute to the maintenance of the facilities. On the outside, the stands are supported by a series of concrete walls of varying curvature, perforated by narrow horizontal slots that allow for lighting and ventilation, while at the same time creating unexpected lighting effects at different times of the day.
