A garden stages fragments of nature with its own laws. Pots are home gardens. The Plaza de la Constitución is a flowerpot in the city. The square recreates a grove of trees similar to others that are familiar to the people of Girona in the landscapes of the fields of banana and poplar trees. The grove grows on a horizontal plane of gravel and soft sand for walks, framed by long volumes of polyhedral concrete. This tectonic envelope separates and protects it from the streets, and defines the scope of this urban-scale planter.

Quotations and winks have always been a constant feature of garden projects, accentuating their playful and surreal character. Hence the presence in front of the Bank of Spain of giant old coins minted in Girona; of carp heads from the river Onyar, spitters of rain; of narcissistic flies (Saint Narcissus is the patron saint of Girona) in the tree surrounds; of benches with crests, or megaphone with legs; and of fountain letters oozing from the city's four rivers (when no water flows from the fountain, at least the name of the square can be read).

The girl who symbolises the Constitution was born in Girona on the day of its promulgation. Each decade commemorating that date, Francisco López would model a new figure of the same girl to be placed next to the previous one.
