[..] In the Villanueva de la Cañada Cultural Centre, V-shaped beams were used in a homogeneous fifteen-metre portal frame system. In the area corresponding to the exhibition hall, these beams directed their upper wings towards the north. The space of the large, seventy-five-metre long nave is like that of a large covered square. This universal space protected by a regular roof comes to be seen as an open and natural place.

The different functions it houses - gymnasium, workshops and classrooms - required compartmentalisation. However, the upper part of these partitions is glazed and this favours the visual continuity of the roof as a whole, of the repetitive and homogeneous set of beams.

Throughout the day, the entire space comes alive in a variety of lights and reflections. The large space looks like a fragment of an even larger landscape in which the interior and exterior participate: it is a chamber that is activated by the variations in light over the course of the hours. The light filtering through the ceiling and its reflections on the wooden or terrazzo floors colour the spaces. The atmosphere thus achieved changes greatly depending on the time of day and local conditions, mobilising a range of colour effects.
