The intervention takes place in the park of La Fornaca. The site contains the remains of three Roman industrial kilns for the decoction of ceramic pieces from the 1st century AD, which still have their original combustion chambers.

The City Council required the protection and conservation of these remains together with the development of a museum programme and their incorporation into the new structure of the park and the existing industrial estate. It is typical of our times that diverse programmes have to coexist and interact, which means, in this case, that the facility has two types of visitors: the walker who enjoys the park - who must be able to appreciate and understand the archaeological remains without physically entering them - and the guided tours, whose access to the interior must be made possible.

The project aims to respond to these variables, keeping the remains underground, as they have been for centuries, but ensuring that their interpretation today is in accordance with an appropriate use of natural light, which is achieved by means of a perforated roof, which becomes the visible face of the site from the park. The same criterion is established in the lower zone (-9 m). Here, the other façade of the building shows a cut in the terrain, a geological stratum through which we enter a new place where we try to maintain the minimum spatial and temporal references in order to be able to contemplate the remains in their essence, entering almost blindly, enhancing the other senses: the smells, the temperature, the silence?
