This project once again highlights the role that the notion of plan has played in the practice of architecture.

For it is from the floor, from its layout, that the complex programme of a hospital is organised, the basic building block of which is the nursing unit. Hence it is the concatenation of nursing units that gives rise to the courtyards which can and must be considered as characteristic elements of a project such as this, in which a comfortable atmosphere for patients has been one of the goals pursued by the architect. The materials - inside and outside the building - also make a definite contribution, which explains the choice of materials and the desire for them to be understood as being close to a technological culture, to which a hospital is no stranger. Clarity, cleanliness and brightness, the attributes of hygiene that medical science demands, are also attributes of this architecture, which we would like to describe as rational and optimistic''
