House 905

The house is structured in concentric layers (like an onion) parallel to the boundaries: the masonry fence, the perimeter courtyard and a continuous gallery surrounding the central body (an exposed masonry box made of two-storey concrete block).

The central volume contains the rooms, bathrooms and staircase and is massive and compact. The common areas, in the gallery, a veranda built with light and dry systems, which proposes variable relations with the courtyard; in summer, by opening the sliding walls it becomes a porch; in winter, the windows offer views of the garden and capture solar radiation.

Contrary to the norm, the glass in this house is fixed and the mobile gates are opaque, a condition that transforms the façade and the gallery. Climatically, in winter, the veranda shelters the central body; in summer, when the sliding doors are closed, the windows are protected from the sun by the overhang of the roof, which, being sloped, favours a passive ventilation system that evacuates the hot air through four ducts, hidden in the façades, like solar chimneys.

Ten years after the first meeting, the House 905 was completed. Time was another determining tool in the project
