The commission for the Iesu has prompted the architect Rafael Moneo to try his luck once again in the very difficult task of religious architecture. But on this occasion, the scale, on the one hand, and the desire of the parish priest, Jesús María Zabaleta, on the other, to incorporate an iconography that reflected current aesthetic concerns, has meant that the Iesú has been a less tense work, in complete consensus with the property.

The parish, on the other hand, contributes effectively to animating the urban scene from its singularity, in that it reinforces the life of the neighbourhood in the community by having given rise to the installation of a supermarket under its premises, an obligatory daily meeting point for those who live in Ribera de Loiola.
