Library, cafeteria and general services of the Bierzo Campus of the University of León.

It consists of an ambitious strategy that desires the independent resolution of each building to organise the whole in a unitary way, providing functional, social and symbolic qualities that are unapproachable from the initial fragmentation of the programme. One of the main fields of work for the materialisation of our proposal has been the work on the dimensions and levels: firstly, understanding the terrain, secondly, the complete figuration of the programme; lastly, the work on the conjunction of both systems until an integration between the natural and built landscape is achieved.

To this end, the project reconfigures the topography and is conceived as a tectonic complex that shelters the three programmes under a single, folded, walkable and very thick roof. This large, deliberately plastic covering forms a succession of sloping slate slabs, drawn on the site to recreate ancestral images of the black villages of El Bierzo. The continuous surface of the roofs relates all the levels and elements that concur on the site and configures a fluid space of ramps and planes. The buildings stand out in front of the city as an expressionist extrusion of the roofs of the buildings.
