It is a project that won in January 2001 a competition of ideas for the construction of a set of facilities and the recovery of the block courtyard in one of the last empty municipal plots in the Eixample district of Barcelona. The most important commitment is to combine different uses, almost incompatible but complementary, in the temporary use (creating a 24-hour operation of the complex); parking for 410 vehicles, nursery, nursery and primary school, housing for young people, recovery of the block courtyard for school and public use.

We set out to recover a typology that had hardly been experimented with in the Ensanche, Antonio Bonet's "Mediterraneo" block, a hybrid that sought not so much to break with Cerda's rules as to explore the true potential of those Ordinances that were never approved. The project extends Bonet's concern with widening the pavements and distancing pedestrians from traffic to the point of visually and physically connecting Londres Street with a park inside the block, recovering the idea of a permeable block that is at the origin of the Ensanche. he project occupies a depth of 28.5 metres, dividing the building into narrow, parallel and staggered volumes, allowing the SOI to reach both the dwellings and the children's classrooms, avoiding the compactness and ventilation courtyards typical of the Ensanche, and allowing two different programmes to coexist and dialogue. Between these two programmes there is a passageway, hall or courtyard leading to the school, which relieves congestion on pavements that cannot accommodate the bags of students that are usually generated. The proposal, therefore, proposes a requalification of the accesses, circulations and open spaces that become spaces for relationships and exchange, with sunshine and ventilation. The complex functions as a miniature city.
