Historically, the city of Granada was built at the confluence of the Genil and Darro rivers, on both sides of the Alhambra hill, and spreads its growth across the vega and the plain to the north. To the southeast of the city, where it slows down to meet the last foothills of the Sierra Nevada, is the Lancha del Genil neighbourhood. This is the location of this Multipurpose Social Centre whose vocation is to be the common space in which neighbourhood life develops, a place where activities converge, a hybrid between inside and outside, an ambiguous space in which lines of force cross, and in which emptiness takes on its own value.

This work, therefore, is not conceived as a building but as a node, both in terms of its programme, a relationship space par excellence, and the way in which it ties the place together by articulating two topographical levels, two different situations. The site, trapezoidal in shape and on a hillside next to the sanctuary of the Virgin of Fatima, has a 5-metre drop to the south. The project resolves an edge, a meeting point between the mountain and the urban, adapting to the topography to resolve the required programme in a simple, flexible and rational way.

The layout of the building is adjusted to the perimeter as a retaining wall to minimise its presence on the upper floor and to make the public space, the viewpoint, the protagonist of the urban scene. In this approach, abstraction is not a language but the transition towards nudity and in it scale, light, programme and place are tied to the construction in this knot that has as many ends as conditions.
