The legacy of María Josefa Huarte, for whose possible headquarters the architect Rafael Moneo had carried out several studies, is at the origin of this project, which has become a complex cultural centre with the incorporation of the University's photography collection formed around the Ortiz-Echagüe archive, a theatre-auditorium, classrooms, workshops and a Faculty Club.

Located behind the Rectorate and next to the Library, the fragmented architecture of the new building delimits the campus, and when seen from the Vía de Cintura it becomes a work of architecture that brings the campus and the city closer together.
