Postgraduate Centre of the Hospedería del Fonseca in Salamanca

As basic criteria of the project, the Hospedería building recovers the entire first-floor arcade, which was partially closed off, and a cloister-like perimeter corridor is created on this floor, around a floor level at first-floor level more in keeping with the proportions of the courtyard.

The buildings annexed to the Hospedería are detached from its main volume, covering these perimeter circulation galleries with glazed roofs at ground level on the second floor and therefore not visible to the outside. The renovation of the existing architectural infrastructure and the incorporation of new volumes allow the programme to be adequately adapted to the proposed needs.

With regard to materials, granite is used on the façades for the skirting boards, sandstone from Villamayor for the rest and wooden carpentry. The interior is made of treated concrete, lime plaster and wooden walls. Mud, oak and PVC flooring. We can say that a simple and calm image is sought, proposing shapes, volumes, colours, textures and construction linked to what we understand as continuity in the modern tradition, as has been the case since antiquity.
