The San Agustin Church was the temple of the complex ensemble that made up the monastery of the Augustinian Order, founded at the beginning of the 15th century. Abandoned and ruined, no longer used for its original purpose, in urban surroundings that had been partially converted into a car park years ago, the ruins still evoked their past. Acquired by the City Council in the 1960s, and earmarked for possible, a change in municipal cultural policy made it possible to recover this monument as the seat of the Municipal Archives of Valladolid.

The refurbishment consisted preserving and restoring the existing masonry and superimposing new structures, essential to provide the building with content, creating underground storage areas, new roofs and the southern enclosure to house the administrative area of the archive and its installations on three levels.

New materials with smooth, clean textures, contrast with the weathered, eroded and wrinkled fabrics of the past. In short, the refurbishment unites past and present, tradition and renewal.
