The old theatre designed by the architect Josep Goday in 1912 has been remodelled. The remaining rooms have been organised and cleared of unnecessary structures, and vertical communications have been reorganised.

Opposite the MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, the façade of Plaça Joan Coromines is the remaining arcade of a cloister of the former hospital, the Casa de la Caritat. The passageway between the theatre building and the old hospital church, which connects Carrer Valldonzella with Plaça Coromines, widens towards the square on the ground floor into an outdoor covered atrium that protects the new entrance door to the remodelled building. Two empty arches on the façade of the cloister help to mark this entrance. The lobbies are organised in the trapezoidal space within, between the arched façade and the theatre hall, whose escalators connect the exhibition and cultural levels. These lobbies are also connected to the new passageway under the square, which serves as an exhibition area and a link with the main building of the Barcelona Contemporary Culture Centre (CCCB).

The new roof of this space encompasses the theatre's south façade and helps to merge with the cloister. New openings have been integrated in the geometry of the arches of the protected façade, on which the letters CCCB can be read, affording views of the square from the inside through unexpected openings.
