Residential building in Mollet

The central space is accessible to pedestrians and vehicles and is articulated not as a symmetrical square, but as an itinerary in a dynamic space. Each building responds to a type of residential organisation endorsed by the experience of the Modern Movement and even by the most common speculative formulas in our poor suburbs: the double block with access to two flats per landing, the block with a longitudinal corridor and duplex flats, the towers, etc.

These different types are articulated by forming continuous façades with penetrations into the central area that do not interrupt the rhythm of the façades thanks to the continuity of the roofs or the creation of interior pedestrian walkways that prolong the spaces defined by the exterior roads. These roads are fully respected in their alignments but, from the first floor onwards, two façades of the block are slightly broken to give a certain autonomous entity to the two blocks and offer some slanted itineraries.

Thus, the aim is to integrate into a single unitary project the residential typologies experimented on the basis of the research of the Modern Movement, the formal underlining of the streets that marks the urban continuity, the public spaces inside the block without limitations of use and privacy, the expressive autonomy of each building and the overcoming of a construction exclusively with formal alterations that do not stem from equivocally picturesque or historicist intentions but from a consistent expression of the architectural character of each type of building.
