Residential complex in Caramoniña

This action aims to articulate the two parts of the city by means of a singular intervention that resolves the continuity between two areas of very different value. The new constructions must configure a new situation that sutures the buildings of the sixties with the present historic layouts and elements but without renouncing the means that give expression to our times.

This action, which is determined by the existence of the Bonaval Park and the Ruela de Caramoniña as identifying elements of the place, has its raison d'être in making both into the starting point for any consideration relating to the resolution of the junction of the Travesera do Escultor Asorey and the Ruela and the new buildings that shape it. Structural decisions affecting the urban fabric, such as the creation of a new pedestrian route through the Park, and issues specific to the historic city in relation to scale, layout and architectural design are concentrated here, taking the temporal dimension of this urban suture operation into account.

In this reduced public space, which culminates in the projected bridge/walkway, the transition of historical time and the individual perception of the passage of time are superimposed.

Stone as a material that determines the essence of the historic city takes centre stage and serves as a support for the memory while at the same time being a constituent part of the architectural expression of the present.
