Located in the grounds of the Royal Botanical Gardens and attached to the wall of Espalter Street, the site of the old Greenhouses, which were demolished in 1975. The greenhouse is part of a research centre that is a pioneer in plant cultivation technology and is linked to an important research institution, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Spanish National Research Council).

The centrepiece is organised in three different climates, with a section of tropical plants with high temperature and humidity, a section of desert plants with very low humidity and a section of temperate plants where there should be a medium temperature and humidity.

The main entrance is located on the west side of the greenhouse and a connection to the existing greenhouse is planned at the opposite end. The entire roof surface is equipped with an automatic shading system that is designed to help dampen interior temperature fluctuations and excessive sunlight.

The air-conditioning system is equipped with a solar panel battery, located in the upper part of the greenhouse, and a large mass of water accumulated under the pedestrian walkways, which balances the thermal changes and maintains the necessary temperature. All of this is regulated by a control system that is designed to achieve greater efficiency and energy use.
