Theatre auditorium in the historic centre of Illueca

The site, which was occupied by the old cinema, stands on the eastern edge of the historic centre, on the corner of a residential block, whose construction is completed with the new building. The integration of the building required for the new auditorium into the historic residential fabric of a rural municipality is the basic objective of the project. To reduce its scale, the building is divided into four volumes: stage box, stalls, foyer-hall and service spaces. Its forms refer to the archetypes of the surrounding domestic constructions and their varied juxtaposition, creating a play of staggered volumes.

The walls of textured klinker brick - rendered with copper cladding - evoke the old pottery tradition of the area and integrate the building with the reddish tones of the site.

The project revolves around the main hall, with a rectangular floor plan and a capacity for 224 spectators in three sectors: sloping stalls, stands and side boxes. The interior atmosphere is defined by the entry of natural light through large windows, louvres and skylights, bathing the brick walls of the room. At night, light filtered from inside announces its scenic activity.
