The site where this teaching building is located, next to the M-30 and on the edge of the University City, has a particularly significant character due to the high average quality of its architectural environment, defined both by the historic buildings that mark the cornice of Madrid and by the magnificent rationalist university architecture.

The library, which thus acquires the status of an urban landmark, is a deliberately hermetic building whose function is barely visible from the outside. It is a library organised according to the Anglo-Saxon model, in which the book storage and reading areas are interrelated. The central idea of the project is therefore based on a superimposition in height of hermetic spaces: the entrance hall and lost passages, the reading and storage room - a unitary space of six floors with interior circulations by stairs - and the cafeteria and administration floor. Two diagonally arranged common communication cores provide access to the different levels and spaces.

Light penetrates the room from the perimeter walls through narrow horizontal windows, and from the coffered ceiling from above. On the top floor, reserved for administration, cafeteria and boardroom, the space is inverted, closing inwards and opening up to the magnificent views outside.
