In 1784, the ramp leading up to the castle was demolished in order to eliminate the damp in the back wall of the cathedral nave. Thus appeared the alley that connects the Cathedral square with the highest point of the promenade of the Renaissance wall, the most spectacular balcony of Dalt Vila overlooking the sea.

The new staircase, wider than the one built after the demolition and which it replaces, allows access to the gate in the Arab wall with a route similar to that of the 18th century ramp, which started in the square and was attached to the pavement of the bishop's building.

The castle now has an open gate in the oldest square of the city. Its walls are covered with ashlars of sandstone - marés - the same as the walls of the medieval enclosure. The rapid ageing of the stone blurs the new construction with the old. The staircase is a return staircase, and on the ceiling of the first flight of stairs, inlaid in brass, is the plan drawn in 1544 by Giovanni Battista Calvi of the Arab fortress of the city, before he designed the Renaissance one.

In order to renovate the hall of the Old Town Hall, the castle's best room, carved courtyards were excavated with concrete walls to allow light to enter through the lunettes, which are the geometric outward projection of the interior arches. The room on the upper floor is subsequently restored, cleaned and made more accessible. The blinds and carpentry are made of iroko wood and the floors are made of Alicante travertine with rhomboid-shaped pieces.
