For the construction of the 2004 Forum of Cultures facilities, Barcelona City Council reclaimed a series of partially abandoned industrial sites near the sea. The urban renewal carried out on these plots consisted of creating a new neighbourhood on the shores of the Mediterranean offering a variety of activities. A large park was created to connect the avenida Diagonal, which crosses the entire city, with the beach.

EMBT organised the site by means of a system of streets extending in different directions following a tree-like pattern. The main avenue directly connects the avenida Diagonal with the sea, and is assigned a pedestrian bridge that passes over the Ronda Litoral, a ring road around the city.

A series of gaps emerge from the intersection of the roads at the points where they join the park. Skating rinks and sports fields flanked by cycle paths have been installed. Water is present almost everywhere in the park, either in the form of small ponds or as a large lake that accompanies the main avenue along its entire length.
