The Siete Palmas sports complex is located in an industrial context of little architectural value. As if it were an island within an island, it emerges as a hermetic and emphatic volume that seeks a relationship with the volcanic landscape of the central sierra and the northern view of the horizon-ocean.

The project seeks a new identity and to be a revitalising focus for the place. To this end, its roof folds up to merge with the central hall's grandstand and recreate an idea of a stony space shell. Like a trough geometry, the volume opens up to the contextual features that follow one after the other: the ocean to the north, and the mountains and the city to the east. In the south square, the main entrance is created by a large opening 90 metres wide and 12 metres high, which draws the spectator into a monumental ambulatory. This space is built as an enormous concrete trough-gallery; in the interstice with the container, there is a triangular-section distribution space with openings that facilitate dispersion to the outside.

The interior of the trough, illuminated by natural light through a large central skylight, contains a hall for 10,000 spectators. True to its geometry, it presents the stands as planes resting on the powerful concrete bowl. The large skylight in the central hall spreads natural light throughout the interior like a well.
