Facing the hill of the Alhambra and the Generalife, the hill of San Miguel frames the last stretch of the valley of the Darro and its Vega. It is a landscape that is absolutely close and linked to the city, natural and wild at the same time, but converted into a residual, almost marginal space, where all kinds of rubbish and debris accumulated. It is also a transitional space towards the new city, a city made up of terraced houses that slightly touches, in the midst of its disorder, the incomplete, fractured remains of the Nazarí wall.
The void of the Cerro del San Miguel is an articulation between two territories, a bare hill that, loaded with time and history, links the city to its geography. What used to represent a defensive and organisational boundary of the city has completely changed in meaning and yet still serves as a guide for reading an urban model.

The project preserves this landscape, which is necessary for the understanding of the city in the mountainous structure that determines it, by undertaking a conceptual and physical cleaning of its surroundings. The accumulation of waste is replaced by plantations of pitas and prickly pears, also restoring the façade of the Ermita de San Miguel Alto and improving the communications that connect it to the city. In this way, the cobblestones were restored in those sections where they existed, a soft pavement of rammed earth was used in the areas lacking paving and stone steps were used in the steeper sections. The mural restitution, proposed as the second phase of the intervention, aims to give visual continuity (especially in a distant view) to the wall, redefining the lost historical boundary and protecting the original remains.
