The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), on its Cantoblanco Campus, has grown around the great green boulevard, which, as the backbone of its urban development, is the place where the campus circulations and meetings are concentrated. From the suburban train station, which is the main public access from Madrid, the axis develops in an east-west direction. The university's new public forum, the Plaza Mayor, will be located at the far end of the boulevard, extending it as part of a new infrastructure-landscape.

The Plaza Mayor is not intended to be an introverted building, alien to its surroundings, but to be built without barriers and in natural continuity, incorporating the access networks and the existing natural fabrics into the building itself. A building that concentrates on the edge - set back to take advantage of the existing slopes - and is built with platforms to prolong the boulevard, resting on the existing slopes, folding, housing the required public services and giving continuity to the existing elements: walkways, shadows and plant tapestries.

And these are extended to the roof, which is equipped and becomes a great viewpoint from its dominant position at a height of more than 12 m above the street, taking in the panoramic view of the Madrid mountains. The circulations are built around the great void of the Plaza Mayor with the prolongation of the platforms which, like large arcades with their folds, facilitate continuity between all the levels.

Vertically, three large towers rise above the building complex. They emerge as scalar reference elements in the distance, access signalling and energy accumulators, incorporating direct communications at all levels. The reinterpretation of a modern fortification, with enclosures and light towers and a vegetal moat has led us to build bridges, recognising them as part of the multiple entrances to the Plaza Mayor and signalling its connectivity to the whole campus, emphasising its character as a new centrality, as a point of reference and meeting point for the entire university and scientific community.
