Outside the city walls, and under the collapse of the wall overlooking the Douro River, the museum is presented as a chest containing the memory of the city. The museum is a stone cube where a family of skylights, all of identical section, define different spaces through their different positions, heights and orientations.

The museum is organised as a route around the remains of history, taking as a formal reference a Celtiberian stele, exhibited in the museum itself, which commemorates a round trip.
