IV BEAU

The aim of the Architecture Biennials is to evaluate, select and submit to public judgement over time those works of architecture which, because of their quality, can be considered the most significant of a country's architectural production.

To this end, the jury of the 4th Biennial of Spanish Architecture had to analyse hundreds of works from all over Spain and award and distinguish those which, in their opinion, were the best of the last biennium. The jury was able to detect a good number of works by architects of recent generations, while confirming the very high quality of the projects of already recognised architects.

A certain generational link is thus reflected. This emergence of young professionals is also happening in numerous places throughout Spain, which means the loss of the primacy of Madrid and Barcelona, where, with a few brilliant exceptions, the best architects of previous generations were concentrated until now. It is also worth noting that the winning entries cover a wide range of themes, including some magnificent projects in the field of social housing. [...]

In the future, we must continue to care for and pamper, in an extraordinary way, our schools of architecture, so that they continue to be a breeding ground for good architecture; we have their classrooms, as possible places for reflection or criticism, capable of developing new proposals and inducing invention and creativity.
