One of the most important nuclei in the complex to be built in the San Francisco el Grande area of Madrid is the one formed by the library, which is the object of the present project, and the Social Services Centres already built around the Puerta de Toledo roundabout.

A very evident intention that explains the form of this building is the very precise care in the scale and presence of the building in the roundabout. Disproportionate buildings on the perimeter of the square would have obscured the door of López Aguado and would have been detached from the fire station to be preserved.

The balance of volumes, the play of full and empty spaces, is integrated into the conformation of a low ring around the door, orientated towards it, within the limits of the scale we consider most appropriate. The emptiness of the high plaza on the other side of Calle de Toledo will dialogue in a complementary way with the fullness of the domed drum shape of the library.
