Refurbishment of premises for office-workshop in Calle San Jerónimo

San Jerónimo 17 is a workspace, an office that brings together displaced concepts and materials in premises in the historic centre of Granada. Marked by the presence of a powerful 60 cm thick brick masonry structure and wooden floors from the end of the 19th century, this place is a palimpsest of successive interventions with recycled elements: pieces of wooden formwork are used to create a piece of furniture-infrastructure for channelling network cabling and books or model storage; six wooden doors, metal shutters and pieces of glass salvaged from the demolition juxtaposed with surplus metal profiles from a renovated house in Granada are assembled to form new openings. The remains of the plasterboard from the previous renovation are transformed into a channel used as an electricity and lighting infrastructure. A 4x1 metre gate from the former studio is finally moved as a mobile table like a foundation stone.

San Jerónimo 17 is a project which harnesses the opportunity of a moment, of a meeting, of being in a specific place and the use of materials from earlier works and unexpected discoveries. To make this dynamic visible, just as we make display the different strata that make up the project, mapping and modelling each brick in 3D, the wounds, the cracks, dignifying their presence as part of a history of continuous superimposition of elements in which we seek to integrate, minimising both the energy invested and our presence.
