Residence for nuns and youth hostel

The ensemble suits the scale of the town as is the simple layout with brief, tight lines.

The enclosed garden of the mystical tradition seems a good starting point for the design of a building for prayer and meditation. Both the building programme and the optimised routes are subordinated to the development of other concepts such as symbolic efficiency. Where the programme was not sufficient to enclose the garden, we have extended it by means of a concrete wall that runs along symbolically to enclose the entire ground floor of the complex. The profile and section of the building critically reconsider what is already known, contrary to the formal strategies of seeking the "new".

The chapel-oratory has been detached from the enclosure and set in the garden. The somewhat distant rotundity of its concrete volumetry stands out against the backdrop of the brick façades, in the form of an interior lattice separating this group of buildings and seeking a place of its own, is the hostel.

This building, with its specific programme and autonomous functioning, responds to other design criteria, based on the study and rigorous application of the programme.

The hostel shows its "front” to the outside world, with strategies analogous to the environment that supports it.

Both buildings has been erected using with a mixed construction system of walls and porticoes.
