One of the characteristics of architectural heritage within historic cities is its dissolution and fragmentation as well as its dispersion among remains, ambiences-atmospheres and places. The former convent of Santa María de los Reyes, located inside a compact block in the historic centre of Seville, was in a state of semi-ruin and abandonment except for the church, choir and compass, where exhibitions and workshops were held regularly. Consolidation work was urgently needed due to the poor condition of the rest of the heritage complex (cloister, cells and former orchards).

Given the limited availability of funds and the requirements of the new urban interlocutor structures in the historic centre, it was decided to carry out installed consolidations". To this end, strategies for interventions were proposed in which new transits are arranged, urban practices are consolidated and devices for art installations are pre-enabled.

  1. Transits. The proposal connects three urban areas outside the pre-existing heritage complex, connecting calles Ceniceros, Santiago and Muro de los Navarros by means of new routes and floors that cross them.

  2. Consolidations of urban practices. To do so, a playground and workshops have been set up around large pools and benches in the former convent gardens. Devices for art installations.

  3. Three rooms around the cloister have been pre-fitted for installations by artists and groups.
