SPANISH BIENNIAL OF ARCHITECTURE AND URBANISM

The Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU) is an initiative promoted since 1991 by the Spanish Government. After fourteen editions, it has become one of the fundamental references for the recognition of the best architecture and urban planning in Spain.

The Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism has been led by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (formerly Fomento) through the Directorate General of Architecture and Urban Agenda in collaboration with the Higher Council of the Spanish Architects' Associations and the Menéndez Pelayo International University. Throughout its more than 20 years of existence, other institutions and organisations such as the Arquia Foundation have been incorporated.

Since its first edition, The Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism has been integrating a series of activities specifically related to Architecture, organised by the different collaborating institutions, a travelling exhibition that brings together in each of its editions those works that have been worthy of being finalists in the Biennial due to their qualities and the prizes established in each of its categories.

The exhibition of the prize-winning works in each BEAU competition and the presentation of the catalogue takes place on the occasion of the award ceremony of the prizes by the organising institutions. From there, the exhibition began a period of travelling around various Spanish and foreign cities (New York, Berlin, Paris...) with the support of other institutions such as Acción Cultural España and the ICEX (Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade).
