XIV BEAU

More living, more human

The Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism in this 14th edition wants to emphasise the idea of inhabiting as the foundation of architecture and the humanisation of the city. An idea that is explained not only by the different functional programmes, but also by the quality and quality of the spaces.

With the idea of inhabiting, the aim is to value environments, life in society, spaces and the intimacy of places without diminishing the creativity of the works. The humanisation of architecture and the city is based on proximity, human scales and spaces for relationships and intimacy. This humanisation does not depend so much on an economy of luxury, but on the right relationship between people, places and ways of living.

At the same time, we want to value urban interventions focused on more sustainable strategies towards an inner growth of our cities, not so expansive and so depredatory of nature as in the time of the great economic boom. Alternative strategies from the point of view of conservation and heritage that enhance the value of time and memory and make them compatible with everyday practices of use and celebration.

In short, inhabiting architecture and humanising the city would imply improving relations for the development of everyday life.
