Mies van der Rohe Award 2013

"At their second meeting on 24 April 2013, the members of the Jury of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture 2013 - Mies van der Rohe Award decided to award the 13th Prize to the Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Reykjavik, Iceland. They also decided to award the Emerging Architect Special Mention to the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid, Spain. This intervention by María Langarita, Víctor Navarro/Langarita-Navarro Arquitectos was highly valued by the jury for the way it solves the problem of adapting the interior of an early 20th century warehouse to host a music festival, building an urban structure that allows flexibility and functionality. The jury met twice. At its first meeting, held in Barcelona on 25 and 26 January 2013, the jury members reviewed the 335 works that had been nominated by experts, ACE member associations and other national architects' associations and the Advisory Committee. After extensive debate, they proceeded to make a selection of 40 exemplary projects that will be presented in the catalogue and exhibition."
