FAD Architecture and Interior Design Awards The jury that judged the works was made up of renowned professionals from the sector: the architect Inês Lobo, president, accompanied by Paloma Cañizares, Josep Puigdomènech, Pep Quilez, Maria Rubert de Ventós and Jorge Vidal. In this edition, the jury chose 16 finalists and 58 works selected in the different categories from a total of 434 works submitted. In the category of Architecture, the jury of the FAD Awards has placed value on those works that respond to current needs and address contemporary themes, whether in cities or in the landscape. These works seek to provide solutions to environmental and social challenges through useful and beautiful approaches, linking the programmes to the logic of the place, and through coherent techniques, with the environment and the urgencies demanded by the present situation. In the Interior Design category, special value was given to proposals for change of use and heritage rehabilitation that approach reuse or requalification from a holistic perspective, which allows the pre-existence to be understood, which knows how to value it and rediscover it in its transformation. Likewise, the responsibility to build with the existing, to respect the legacy and to grow without destroying, by optimising resources to find what is necessary, in the right measure, in terms of functionality but also in terms of beauty and comfort, has also been valued. They are proposals that promote a new way of inhabiting and using existing spaces in an innovative way. In the category of City and Landscape, the value of projects that establish new continuities, that enhance the existing or activate empty scenarios is emphasised. They are works that act in a sustainable way, from an environmental point of view and in line with direct relations with the environment, favouring public use (building without destroying, transforming without altering or connecting without breaking). These are projects that improve urban or landscape conditions at various scales, inventing new places or activating depressed areas through multiple strategies, from the urbanisation of the urban scene to the incorporation of new landscapes to encourage the use of new sites. The Ephemeral Interventions category values the capacity of events and festivals that multiply in cities to raise new questions, new paradigms and new experimental realities as an activating element of the urban, the political and the social. It also values the experimentation of new languages that make it possible to imagine, dream or transform open, closed, public and private places; directly questioning people to open up reflections, converting the temporary into proposals for value and change with a vocation for permanence. FAD Thought and Criticism Awards The FAD Thought and Criticism Awards, which this year celebrate their 17th edition, bring together the best texts dedicated to architecture published throughout the year 2021. In this new edition, the jury, composed of the architect Marta Llorente as president and the members Kathrin Golda-Pongratz and Alessandro Scarnato, has chosen a total of 5 finalists and 7 works selected from among the 75 works submitted. Particularly noteworthy are the original works, those edited with formal criteria that reinforce and individualise them, and those written in the languages of the Iberian geographic region
