FAD Architecture Award for the project 79 protected dwellings in the Central Hall of Sant Boi de Llobregat

The jury has awarded the 2020 FAD Architecture Award tothe project 79 protected dwellings in the Central Hall of Sant Boi de Llobregat, by the architects Juan Herreros Guerra and Jens Richter (Estudio Herreros) and Mariona Benedito Ribelles and Martí Sanz Ausàs (Estudi d'arquitectura MIM-A). The jury highlights in the work "the research, through the architectural project, into the ways of passing through and inhabiting the common spaces in collective housing buildings, as well as their  ambition to build a community, and not just a building".

He considers it to be an architectural project with "a proactive spirit, attentive and complicit with the context, which creates spaces designed for communal living, in close harmony with the physical and human landscape in which it is inserted and which it serves". The winning work is a public housing intervention of which the jury highlights that it "squeezes the potential of the place beyond the limits conventionally established in this type of project, generating relevant contributions and amendments to the ways of living and occupying spaces in line with contemporary paradigm shifts".

FAD Interior Design Award for the café-restaurant Run, Run, Run

The Madrid café-restaurant Run, Run, Run, Run, a project by the architect Andrés Jaque (Andrés Jaque / Office for Political Innovation) has received the award in the Interior Design category. The jury considers the project "a fresh proposal with its own identity" and highlights the work "for the commitment it represents to creative interior design with personality, which knows how to read and enhance in an exemplary manner the conditions of the premises and of the place in which it is located, creating spaces in absolute material and environmental harmony with the ambitions of the functional project it serves, and attentive to generating urban synergies with its immediate surroundings".

FAD City and Landscape Award for the project of the remodelling of the Plaza de Mansilla Mayor in León

In the City and Landscape category, the award was won by the architects Iñigo Ocamica Berbois and Iñigo Tudanca Acedo (Ocamica Tudanca arquitectos) for the remodelling of the Plaza de Mansilla Mayor in León. A project that stands out "for its excellence in the reading of the urban and social context and for the creativity and quality in the use of very limited resources from an economic and formal point of view".

FAD Award for Ephemeral Interventions for MAD x MAD

Finally, the MAD x MAD project has received the award for Ephemeral Interventions. The work by the architects Uriel Fogué Herreros, Eva Gil Lopesino and Carlos Palacios Rodriguez (Elii (architecture office)) has been chosen, according to the jury, for "the capacity of this ephemeral intervention to place itself at the service of urban planning, a fact that allows us to rethink and actively experiment with new uses in certain urban spaces, thus contributing to implementing real changes in the perception of the city and in its dynamisation".

Special mention by the jury for the APROP Ciutat Vella project

This year's jury, formed by the architect Anna Ramos as president, and accompanied by the members Atxu Amann, Cristina Bestratén, Tomás López Amat, David Morros and Marco Aurelio Santos, decided to give a special mention to the APROP Ciutat Vella project by architects David Juárez Latimer-Knowles (Straddle3), Jon Begiristain Mitxelena (Eulis Arkitektura) and Yaiza Terré Alonso (Yaiza Terré Arquitectura y diseño de interiores). They consider that the work stands out "for its experimental value, its vocation of service, its research and its contribution to the evolution of the discipline in terms of social and environmental sustainability"

FAD Thought and Criticism Awards for Viagem ao invisível: espaço, experiência, representação

The FAD Thought and Criticism Awards, which this year celebrate their 15th edition, went to the book Viagem ao invisível: espaço, experiência, representação by Luís Santiago Baptista, Maria Rita Pais, a publication that "offers new original tools for rediscovering the space and architectural culture in which we live". The president of the jury, André Tavares, and the members Carolina B. García-Estévez and Marc Longaron, had to debate the proposals received "at a time of great uncertainty and difficulty, when the consolidated foundations of our way of life in the 21st century have been shaken and there is no clear future in sight for society. The choice of Viagem ao Invisível, among such a large body of stimulating work with enormous critical and intellectual potential, reflects this uncertainty."
