Among the finalist works, the jury has decided to award:
Ephemeral Interventions Exhibition Espècies d'Espais - MACBA - Barcelona Authors: Maria Charneco, Alfredo Lérida, Guillermo López, Anna Puigjaner, arquitectes (MAIO)
"A grid of rooms of identical dimensions creates a series of spatial episodes that make up the Peruvian imaginary of the exhibition. The desire to add layers and merge the limits between work, space, narrative and reflection is highly inspiring, and its formalisation (the fusion between exhibition support and content), simple and complex at the same time. The rooms unfold in Macba's round room with delicacy and rigour and create a contemplative, fluid space, full of views and connections, a place to let the imagination run wild."
City and Landscape Mirador da Pedra da Rá Author: Carlos Seoane, architect (CSA arquitectura)
"An enormous stone, in unstable equilibrium, marks out a hillock that was once a granite quarry. The panoramic view from the top is so impressive that the remains of the quarry deserved the status of a site. An unfortunate construction was a testament to this fact. The restoration of the belvedere is a subtle intervention that removes the superfluous elements that were added to the rock in search of the essence of the site. A steel railing suggests a way to approach the summit, a solid stone railing places the viewer in front of the landscape, and the remains of a minimal peripheral urbanisation establish the right balance between the built work and the nature of the place"
Interior design of 3 metro stations on L9 Authors: Garcés-de Seta-Bonet arquitectes and Tec4 Enginyers Consultors
"What was impressive was the recognition and intelligence in the reading of the pre-existence, as if it were an archaeological site. It is a modern ruin that is worked in an almost museological or scenic way. The choices made for lighting, location of controls, signage, acoustic panels and daylight inlets give the interiors a noble feel. The three metro stations seem to have come from a post-apocalyptic scenario in which the surfaces take on a pictorial character due to the effect that light and shadow produce on the surface textures. The control of scale and the minimal and effective gestures that make this project emblematic should therefore be appreciated" Arquipélago
Architecture - Centro de Artes Contemporâneas (Contemporary Arts Centre) Authors: João Mendes Ribeiro, architect Cristina Guedes, Francisco Vieira de Campos, architects (Menos é Mais arquitectos associados, lda)
" This is an ambitious project that is the result of the architecture. In a rather remote place, in the city of Ribeira Grande, on the island of São Miguel (Azores), a centre for creation and culture is being set up, aimed at encouraging national and international artistic residencies and their articulation with the community. The extension, in two volumes, completes the complex while remaining consistent with the very strong 19th century pre-existence, the former alcohol and tobacco factory. The careful use and combination of materials contributes to the subtle alchemy that makes this house of the arts a welcoming place. The delicacy, which does not undermine the strong identity of the complex and the place, and the recovery of the art of building well are some of the issues that should be highlighted in a project that brings the presence of the past back to the present and the future."
