The 2018 National Architecture Award is awarded to the architect Manuel Gallego Jorreto, nominated by the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
The author, with a recognised trajectory, with more than 50 years of professional practice marked by an architecture committed to his native Galicia, and characterised by an honest dialogue between traditional materials, trades and modernity. A prophet in his own land, he has developed an architecture that ranges from single-family homes in small Galician towns such as Corrubedo or Oleiros, to such emblematic projects as the Museum of Fine Arts in A Coruña (1997 National Architecture Award), the Presidential Complex of Galicia - the official residence of the President of that Community - or the Pilgrimage Museum in Santiago de Compostela. Always with a sincere, respectful but at the same time courageous attitude, which has put the environment, the landscape and the general interest before any personal stamp.
