I BEAU
The extraordinary dissemination of Spanish architecture through magazines, critical and historical studies, publishing houses, press, etc., means that this Biennial is more of a monographic synthesis of the qualitative and quantitative leap that architectural works have undergone in recent years.
The composition of the international jury for the selection of the works has sought to respond to criteria based on consistent critical and theoretical knowledge in the university panorama and the media, to the point of confirming that behind the selected works appear key names in the consolidation of the schools of architecture as universally recognised institutions (above all Madrid and Barcelona) and that only the blindness of the current bureaucracy of our university and the meanness of many components in the defence of their small plots (which sometimes seem to have an average architectural culture inferior to the citizen) can close a process initiated with illusion, effort and intelligence, or perhaps it is closing? This question must surely have been the reason for this Biennial.
Because architecture has a long life and it can only happen that, to the university's disgrace, it flourishes on the fringes of the university.
Luis Peña Ganchegui - Director of the 1st Biennial and President of the Jury
